Sun Feb 23 22:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Ancient Iron Age Structures Discovered Near Gudipalli, Telangana

**Hyderabad, February 24, 2025** – A significant archaeological discovery has been made on the outskirts of Gudipalli, Nalgonda district, Telangana. Archaeologist E. Sivanagireddy, CEO of Pleach India Foundation, uncovered rare Iron Age structures, including several menhirs (vertical standing stones) and a unique dolmen (megalithic tomb). The findings, based on information provided by B. Srinivasa Reddy of Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam, date back to between 2000 and 1000 BCE.

The dolmen is particularly noteworthy due to its unusual capstone – a large boulder, unlike the typical rectangular slabs found in similar structures. This, along with the two-course rubble walls supporting the structure, highlights the advanced engineering skills of the Iron Age communities. Mr. Sivanagireddy emphasized the urgent need for preservation, as these monuments are threatened by ongoing quarrying and agricultural expansion. He believes the boulder capstone was transported and positioned using collective community effort. The discovery underscores the rich, yet endangered, archaeological heritage of the region.
