Mon Feb 24 14:48:04 UTC 2025: ## Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve Begins Post-Monsoon Wildlife Census
**TIRUNELVELI, February 24, 2025** – The post-monsoon wildlife census commenced Monday in the Kalakkad Division of the Kalakkad – Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) in Tamil Nadu. Over 100 trained forest personnel and volunteers, divided into 21 groups, are undertaking the survey across the 500 sq. km area. The census, an annual event, follows special training provided to participants.
Equipped with a mobile app for GPS-based wildlife recording via scat, pugmarks, and direct sightings, the teams will remain in the reserve until March 1st. Collected samples will be sent for analysis. The Kalakkad Division is home to a diverse range of animals, birds, reptiles, and endemic flora.
