Mon Feb 24 00:50:00 UTC 2025: **Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Rejects Opposition Status Demand**
AMARAVATI, INDIA – Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has stated that the Janasena Party will not be granted opposition status simply because it is requested. He clarified that the status is awarded based on the number of seats won in the Assembly, and that only the party securing the second-highest number of seats is eligible.
Kalyan, addressing the media, responded to demands from YSRCP members for opposition status. He emphasized that the Janasena Party, despite securing only 11 seats, is entitled to its rightful position in the Assembly. He urged YSRCP members to behave responsibly, respect the results of the election, and utilize the allotted time to raise concerns and highlight government shortcomings. He pointed out that staging protests within the Assembly demonstrates immaturity and that a party’s strength should be gauged by its votes, not by disruptive tactics. He suggested that YSRCP members consider their vote percentage before making such demands.
Kalyan’s remarks follow YSRCP’s request for opposition status, despite having fewer seats than Janasena. He indicated that the rules governing the grant of opposition status clearly preclude YSRCP from receiving it at this time.
