Mon Feb 24 13:10:24 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan Cricket Team Overhauls Coaching Staff After Champions Trophy Disappointment

**Dubai, UAE –** Following a disappointing performance in the Champions Trophy, including a humiliating loss to India, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to overhaul its coaching staff. This includes the departure of interim head coach Aaqib Javed, according to a PCB source.

Javed, appointed late last year following the resignations of Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie, will be relieved of his duties after the tournament. The source indicated that the entire support staff will be replaced, citing significant backlash from the team’s poor showing. While the PCB hasn’t decided on whether to have separate coaches for red and white-ball cricket, a complete restructuring is imminent.

The source acknowledged the difficulty in finding suitable replacements, given the high turnover of coaches and selectors in the past year. With Pakistan’s upcoming tour of New Zealand (March 16th – April 5th), the PCB is prioritizing the appointment of a permanent coach or coaches. The hiring process, delayed due to the Champions Trophy preparations, will now take precedence. Due to previous experiences with foreign coaches Kirsten and Gillespie, the PCB is likely to consider former Pakistani players for the vacant positions.

Furthermore, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will also review the national selection committee’s future following the conclusion of the Champions Trophy. The decisions regarding the coaching staff and selection committee are expected to be finalized soon.
