Mon Feb 24 14:19:33 UTC 2025: ## Chhattisgarh Governor Declares Naxalism’s Demise in State

**Raipur, Chhattisgarh, February 24, 2025** – Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka today declared that Naxalism is nearing its end in the state, citing significant successes in the fight against Maoist insurgency. Addressing the Chhattisgarh Assembly on the inaugural day of its Budget session, Mr. Deka highlighted the government’s efforts, resulting in over 300 Naxalite deaths, 972 surrenders, and 1,183 arrests within the past 14 months. He linked these achievements to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s goal of eradicating Maoist violence by March 31, 2026.

The Governor also pointed to symbolic victories, such as the first-ever flag hoisting in 26 previously Maoist-controlled villages and the inaugural panchayat elections in several villages in Sukma district. The reopening of a health center in Dantewada district after a 19-year closure further underscored the government’s progress in restoring normalcy to affected areas.

Beyond the fight against Naxalism, Governor Deka emphasized the state government’s focus on farmer welfare, outlining several agricultural initiatives. His address also covered various other policy implementations, including a housing scheme for the poor, improved forest produce collection, and industrial development.

However, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel dismissed the Governor’s speech as lacking novelty, claiming that the mentioned schemes were already in place during his tenure. He specifically criticized the address for simply reiterating pre-existing programs.
