**Mumbai, February 24, 2025** – Maharashtra Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal has demanded a thorough investigation into the seizure of ₹12.6 crore worth of cannabis from a farm in Buldhana district. He expressed concerns that a single farmer could not have cultivated such a large quantity without political backing, suggesting a larger conspiracy at play.
Authorities arrested a farmer after confiscating the cannabis plants. Following the seizure, law enforcement has increased surveillance across the district to prevent further illegal cultivation.
Mr. Sapkal highlighted the increasing financial strain on farmers, suggesting that the economic hardship is driving them towards illegal crops like cannabis. He criticized the state government for its alleged negligence, claiming that the focus on maintaining power has overshadowed constitutional duties and led to the cancellation of several government schemes due to a revenue deficit.
The Congress leader also urged the government to grant tax-free status to the film “Chhava,” based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, a demand he previously made earlier this week on Shiv Jayanti.
