**Varanasi, India (February 24, 2025)** – External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar hosted 45 ambassadors from around the world at the third edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi on Sunday. The event, showcasing the cultural ties between Kashi and Tamil Nadu, provided international delegates with a glimpse into India’s rich diversity and unity.

Mr. Jaishankar described Kashi as India’s cultural heart, emphasizing the nation’s unity despite its linguistic and cultural variations. He highlighted the Sangamam’s role in preserving India’s heritage and promoting its global outreach. He further emphasized the connection between tradition and technological advancement, citing India’s growing expertise in fields like drone and space technology.

Ambassadors from various countries, including Somalia, Eritrea, Rwanda, Iceland, and Jamaica, expressed admiration for India’s social harmony and its ability to coexist despite its immense diversity. The Ambassador of Somalia specifically contrasted India’s model of unity in diversity with conflict-ridden regions in Africa. The High Commissioner of Jamaica proposed establishing a Caribbean Studies centre in India to further strengthen bilateral ties.

The Kashi Tamil Sangamam, a 10-day event organized by the Ministry of Education, aims to celebrate the ancient civilizational bond between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. This year’s theme focuses on the contributions of Sage Agasthyar to Siddha medicine and Tamil literature. The event’s success, according to Banaras Hindu University’s acting Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Kumar, reflects India’s expanding global influence and its deep-rooted cultural connections.
