Sun Feb 23 23:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Ochoa’s AVS Earns Dramatic Draw Against League Leaders Sporting Lisbon

**Lisbon, Portugal** – Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and his Primeira Liga team, AVS Futebol SAD, pulled off a dramatic 2-2 draw against league leaders Sporting Lisbon on Sunday. The result leaves AVS just one point from escaping the relegation zone.

Sporting, boasting 53 points, briefly reclaimed the top spot from Benfica (also on 53 points, but with an inferior goal difference), after their 3-0 victory over Boavista on Saturday. Sporting took a two-goal lead, thanks to goals from Diomande (8th minute) and Viktor Gyökeres (33rd minute), with Ochoa making a key save before Gyökeres’ goal.

AVS fought back, scoring a penalty through Zé Luís in the 71st minute. However, Diomande’s red card in the 79th minute opened the door for AVS, who snatched an equalizer in the 96th minute thanks to Gustavo Mendonça’s strike.

The draw moves AVS to 20 points, placing them 16th in the table, just one point behind Estrela Amadora, currently occupying the final relegation spot. Estrela Amadora drew 0-0 against Santa Clara. Meanwhile, the top of the table remains a tight contest between Sporting and Benfica, with Braga in third and Porto’s match against Vitória SC still to come.
