Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – February 25, 2025 – Health officials in Andhra Pradesh have issued a warning about a new cyber scam targeting lactating mothers. The scam involves fraudsters posing as health workers and using WhatsApp to solicit personal information under the guise of the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) maternity benefit scheme.

According to Health and Family Welfare Commissioner G. Veerapandian, the messages appear legitimate, often claiming a ₹70 lakh allocation for the scheme and offering ₹15,000 to eligible mothers. Fraudsters are even using Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s picture as their profile picture to add credibility to their deceptive messages. They are reportedly contacting anganwadi teachers to obtain contact details of lactating mothers.

Commissioner Veerapandian urged the public to exercise caution and avoid clicking links or sharing personal information in response to unsolicited messages. He has instructed officials to alert anganwadi teachers about the scam to prevent further victims. The commissioner emphasized the importance of verifying information through official channels before responding to such requests.
