Mon Feb 24 13:59:16 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Ministers Criticize Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Demand for Leader of Opposition Status

**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** Andhra Pradesh ministers launched a scathing attack on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday, accusing him of misleading the public and demanding the Leader of Opposition (LoP) status without meeting the required legislative criteria.

Following the Governor’s address to the state legislature, Ministers K. Atchannaidu, Anagani Satya Prasad, and S. Savitha criticized Reddy’s actions, calling his demand a “diversionary tactic” and a display of “authoritarianism.” They pointed out that the YSRCP only holds 11 MLAs, falling far short of the 18 needed (10% of the 175-member Assembly) to qualify for LoP status.

Minister Atchannaidu accused Reddy of prioritizing personal gain over public service, while Minister Prasad cited examples of prominent opposition figures who effectively voiced concerns without holding the formal LoP title, including former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Minister Savitha directly challenged Reddy, urging him to attend Assembly sessions regularly and engage in constructive debate. She criticized his governance style and questioned his claim of following his father’s legacy.

Lanka Dinakar, Chairperson of the 20-Point Programme Implementation Committee, further reinforced the ministers’ statements, emphasizing that the LoP designation is determined by legislative rules, not personal demands. He condemned Reddy’s actions as undermining democratic principles. The ministers collectively urged the YSRCP to focus on its legislative responsibilities rather than pursuing unconstitutional demands.
