Mon Feb 24 10:46:47 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Budget Session Begins Amidst Opposition Protest
**Amaravati, February 24, 2025** – The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s budget session commenced today with Governor S. Abdul Nazeer delivering the opening address. However, the proceedings were disrupted by members of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), who demanded recognition as the official opposition party.
The YSRCP MLAs and MLCs, including party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, staged a walkout after approximately 10 minutes of shouting slogans. Their protest was met with counter-heckling from the ruling coalition.
In his speech, Governor Nazeer highlighted the NDA government’s sweeping victory in the recent Assembly elections, attributing it to public trust in Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He characterized the win as a rejection of the previous YSRCP regime’s alleged misrule.
Nazeer detailed the previous government’s alleged financial mismanagement, including the diversion of resources, flawed policies, and excessive borrowing. He cited white papers released by the current government to support these claims.
The Governor also emphasized the current government’s progress in addressing these issues, noting the revival of 74 out of 93 stalled Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) by clearing ₹9,371 crore in liabilities. Additionally, pending bills totaling ₹10,125 crore related to various infrastructure projects have been cleared.
Nazeer further stated that the government is progressing with the construction of the capital city, Amaravati, the Polavaram project, the revival of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, and the establishment of a new railway zone, all fulfilling election promises.
