Mon Feb 24 12:45:27 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Launches 1,000 Discounted Pharmacies Across State

**Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, February 24, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government launched 1,000 “Mudhalvar Marundhagams” (Chief Minister’s Pharmacies) across the state on Monday, offering discounted generic and other medicines to the public. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the project in Chennai, while simultaneous launches were held across various districts.

The initiative aims to improve access to affordable healthcare. Half of the pharmacies will be run by the Department of Cooperation, with the remaining operated by private entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs receive a ₹3 lakh subsidy (including ₹1.5 lakh for medicine purchase), while cooperatives receive ₹2 lakh.

Tiruchirappalli district saw the launch of 38 pharmacies, with the Manapparai constituency receiving the most (seven). Collector M. Pradeep Kumar and Mayor M. Anbazhagan inaugurated the first sale at a K.K. Nagar pharmacy.

Other districts also witnessed simultaneous inaugurations:

* **Thanjavur:** Minister for Higher Education Govi. Chezhiaan inaugurated a pharmacy in Thiruvidaimarudhur; 32 pharmacies launched in total.
* **Pudukottai:** Minister for Law M. Reghupathy inaugurated a pharmacy in Ponnamavarathy; 16 pharmacies launched in total.
* **Ariyalur:** Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar inaugurated a pharmacy in Senthurai; 18 pharmacies launched in total.
* **Karur:** 27 pharmacies launched, with 11 run by cooperatives and 16 by entrepreneurs.
* **Perambalur:** 17 pharmacies launched.
* **Tiruvarur:** 25 pharmacies launched, 11 run by cooperatives.
* **Nagapattinam:** 12 pharmacies launched, seven run by private entrepreneurs and five by cooperatives.
* **Mayiladuthurai:** 18 pharmacies launched, 15 run by private entrepreneurs and three by cooperatives.

The scheme is expected to significantly impact healthcare accessibility and affordability across Tamil Nadu. The government is accepting applications from both entrepreneurs and cooperative societies interested in establishing additional pharmacies.
