**Thrissur, Kerala –** The 15th edition of the International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK) opened Sunday, celebrating the power of theatre as a catalyst for social change. Higher Education Minister R. Bindu inaugurated the festival, praising its international acclaim for bold storytelling and its role in showcasing diverse perspectives on human life. This year’s theme, “Cultures of Resistance,” focuses on the struggles of marginalized communities and the resistance against global fascism.

The festival, which pays tribute to late actor Murali, its visionary founder, features 15 plays, eight of which are directed by women. Festival director B. Ananthakrishnan highlighted this as a significant act of resistance, challenging traditional gender roles within Indian theatre. He noted that these women directors are pushing boundaries with new visual styles and narratives.

Chief guest actor Nassar lauded the festival for its unique and transformative theatrical experience, emphasizing theatre’s foundational role in his own acting career. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Revenue Minister K. Rajan and other officials. The festival is expected to continue showcasing groundbreaking theatrical works and fostering cultural dialogue throughout its run.
