**Hyderabad, Telangana –** A major rescue operation is underway in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana, following the collapse of a section of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project tunnel on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Eight workers remain trapped within the tunnel.

A joint rescue team of over 300 personnel from the NDRF, Army, NHIDCL, Singareni Collieries, and SDRF has reached 11 kilometers into the tunnel, utilizing a train to transport personnel and equipment. Despite reaching the area near where the workers are believed to be trapped, rescuers have yet to establish contact.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday to offer the Centre’s full support. Both BJP leader N. Ramchander Rao and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have also contacted the Chief Minister to express their concern and offer support for the rescue operation. Rao has called for an investigation into the incident, while Gandhi praised the ongoing efforts and urged that no stone be left unturned in the rescue attempt.

Incessant water seepage is believed to be the cause of the tunnel collapse. The rescue operation continues, with hopes of reaching and rescuing the trapped workers.
