**New Delhi, February 22, 2025** – Shaktikanta Das, the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been appointed as the second Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The appointment, announced today by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), will be effective until the end of the Prime Minister’s term or further orders.

Das, who served a six-year term as the 25th RBI Governor, will serve alongside Dr. P K Mishra, the existing Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. His tenure as RBI Governor concluded on December 10, 2024. During his time at the RBI, Das also held the positions of India’s G20 Sherpa and a member of the 15th Finance Commission.

A 1980-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, Das has a distinguished career in public service, holding key positions such as Economic Affairs Secretary, Revenue Secretary, and Fertilizers Secretary with the Union Government. His appointment to the RBI in 2018 was considered a surprise, and he received a three-year extension in 2021.
