SAMBHAL, Uttar Pradesh, Feb 23, 2025 – The city of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh will install 300 CCTV cameras at 127 locations to improve security following deadly violence in November 2024. The ₹2 crore project, funded by the 15th Finance Commission, will include pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras, and will be managed by two centralized control rooms. One control room will be supervised by an additional superintendent of police, while the other will be jointly operated by police, municipal authorities, and the maintenance agency. The cameras, expected to be fully operational within two to three months, aim to enhance traffic management, law enforcement, and public safety, particularly for women. The November incident, which occurred during a survey of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid in Kot Garvi locality, resulted in four deaths and several injuries. Municipal Executive Officer Mani Bhushan Tiwari stated that the previously installed CCTV cameras had proven helpful in apprehending criminals, and this expansion is expected to further strengthen Sambhal’s security framework.
