TIRUCHI, February 23, 2025 – The Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) at Periya Milaguparai in Tiruchi has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The facility scored an impressive 92.71%, exceeding all requirements for certification.
The certification recognizes the UPHC’s commitment to high standards in healthcare, particularly in maternal and child care. The assessment team praised the centre’s strict adherence to hand hygiene, sterilization protocols, equipment maintenance, affordable services, and high patient satisfaction rates. This is the fourth UPHC in Tiruchi to receive this prestigious certification.
A national assessment team conducted a thorough inspection of the centre’s infrastructure and services, including care for expectant mothers and treatment for non-communicable diseases. City Health Officer M. Vijay Chandran highlighted the centre’s cleanliness and overall quality of care.
As a reward for its achievement, the UPHC received a ₹2.5 lakh cash prize. 25% of this will be distributed as incentives to the healthcare workers, while the remaining funds will be used to improve patient welfare and further develop the UPHC’s facilities.
The UPHC, a two-storey facility with six beds, serves approximately 220 patients daily and averages two deliveries per month. Its dedicated team includes a doctor, nurses, and other healthcare professionals offering a comprehensive range of services.
The City Health Officer expressed the city’s ambition to secure NQAS certification for all UPHCs within the next year.
