**Coonoor, Tamil Nadu – February 24, 2025** – A community clean-up drive in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, yielded impressive results on Saturday, removing over 1,090 kg of waste from roadsides and other areas. Organized by the Residents of Brooklands Association of Coonoor (ROBAC) in collaboration with the NGO ‘Clean Coonoor’, and with the support of Coonoor Municipality staff, approximately 30 volunteers participated.
The collected waste consisted primarily of household discards, with a significant amount of baby diapers. Clean Coonoor members highlighted the initiative’s potential to identify areas for improvement in waste management, including waste generation patterns and existing collection mechanisms. They emphasized the importance of educating residents about proper waste disposal to prevent future dumping.
Radhika Hegde of ROBAC and Clean Coonoor expressed hope that this successful clean-up would inspire similar efforts and that the initiative would become a bi-weekly event. The collected data is expected to inform strategies for reducing waste and improving Coonoor’s sanitation.
