Sat Feb 22 23:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Bird Flu Outbreak Spreads in Andhra Pradesh: 10,000 Birds Dead
**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – February 23, 2025** – Avian influenza (bird flu), caused by the H5N1 virus, has claimed the lives of approximately 10,000 birds in NTR district, Andhra Pradesh. The latest outbreak, confirmed on Saturday, February 22nd by the ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, involved the death of 3,000 broiler birds in Deeplanagar village.
District Collector G. Lakshmisha assured the public that the situation is under control and that rapid response teams are working to prevent further spread. Deeplanagar has been declared a red zone, with a 10km surveillance zone established. Around 270 backyard poultry birds within the red zone are being culled as a precautionary measure. This follows a previous outbreak last week in Anumollanka village, where 7,000 birds perished.
Authorities are urging vigilance and have asked officials to report any unusual bird deaths in the district’s forests. While the Collector stated there is no need for alarm, the ongoing culling and containment efforts highlight the seriousness of the situation.
