**Hyderabad, February 23, 2025** – The Telangana government is undertaking a comprehensive training program for rural masons to enhance their skills and reduce the cost of constructing Indiramma houses, a state-sponsored affordable housing initiative. In collaboration with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) and the National Academy of Construction (NAC), the program introduces innovative construction methods.
The training, currently underway at NAC in Hyderabad, covers techniques such as pile foundations, open foundations, short columns, and efficient material usage. The curriculum also emphasizes construction safety and basic principles. The first batch of 82 trainees from seven districts has already completed the program.
The state government provides ₹5 lakh in financial assistance for each Indiramma house, with the central government contributing ₹72,000. Telangana aims to build 2,00,000 houses over the next four years.
V.P. Gautam, Managing Director of the Telangana Housing Corporation, highlighted the crucial role of masons in building these homes on 400-square-foot plots. The program intends to train at least one mason in each of Telangana’s 12,672 villages, starting with 1,200 master masons in the first phase. Subsequent training will occur at district-level NAC units. The initiative aims to significantly improve the quality and affordability of housing in rural Telangana.
