**Mudhol, Karnataka –** A three-day festival celebrating the life and works of renowned Kannada poet Ranna commenced Saturday in Mudhol, Bagalkot district, Karnataka. The “Ranna Vaibhava” festival, inaugurated by Tourism Minister H.K. Patil, features numerous cultural programs and sporting events near the Lakshmi Temple.

Minister Patil lauded Ranna’s contribution to Kannada literature, noting his significant impact and various accolades, including titles like Kavi Tilaka, Ubhaya Kavi, and Shakti Kavi. He emphasized Ranna’s place among the three gems (“Sahitya Ratna”) of Kannada literature alongside Pampa and Ponna, highlighting their role in preserving the region’s cultural heritage. The Minister expressed hope that the festival would rival the grandeur of the Dasara festival in Mysuru. He also acknowledged the need to locate missing works by Ranna, such as *Chakreshwara* and *Parashurama Charitre*, while noting the global recognition of works like *Rannana Gada Yuddha*.

District in-charge Minister R.B. Thimmapura highlighted the fulfillment of a promise to the people of Mudhol by organizing the festival. He urged researchers to document Ranna’s history and preserve relevant historical artifacts. The event was attended by several MLAs, MLCs, and district officials.
