Sun Feb 23 12:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Shiffrin Makes History: 100 World Cup Ski Wins

**SESTRIERE, Italy (AP) —** Mikaela Shiffrin has etched her name in skiing history, becoming the first skier ever to reach 100 World Cup victories. The American star achieved the milestone on Sunday with a slalom win in Sestriere, Italy, surpassing the previous record of 86 wins held by Ingemar Stenmark.

Shiffrin’s remarkable achievement comes less than 14 years after her World Cup debut at the age of 16. Her 100 wins are comprised of victories across all six Alpine disciplines: slalom (63), giant slalom (22), super-G (5), downhill (4), alpine combined (1), and parallel (5). This translates to an impressive 36% win rate across her 278 career starts.

The win in Sestriere holds particular significance, marking Shiffrin’s return to competition after a two-month injury break. She suffered an abdominal injury during a giant slalom race in November.

Throughout her career, Shiffrin has consistently broken barriers. Notable victories highlighted in her journey to 100 include her first World Cup win at age 17, her come-from-behind win in Lenzerheide securing her first crystal globe, a dominant three-win streak in Semmering, Austria, and her first downhill victory in Lake Louise. Her win in Courchevel, France, following the death of her father, was particularly poignant. She also became the first skier to win in all six Alpine disciplines. Shiffrin’s win in Are, Sweden, surpassed Ingemar Stenmark’s long-standing record of 86 wins.

Even before this milestone, Stenmark had predicted Shiffrin’s potential to surpass 100 wins. With her 100th victory, Shiffrin has cemented her legacy as the greatest ski racer of all time.
