**New Delhi, [Date]** – Shaktikanta Das, the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet announced Saturday. Das’s appointment is effective immediately and will continue until the end of the Prime Minister’s term or until further notice.
Das, a 1980-batch IAS officer, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served in various key positions within the Indian government over four decades. His career includes stints as Revenue Secretary, Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs, and a member of the 15th Finance Commission. He also served as India’s G20 Sherpa.
As RBI governor from December 2018 to December 2024, Das received an A+ grade from Global Finance’s Central Bank Report Card for the second consecutive year in 2024, a testament to his performance in managing inflation, economic growth, currency stability, and interest rates. His experience also extends to international roles, representing India in organizations like the IMF, G20, BRICS, SAARC, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, New Development Bank, and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. He was directly involved in the preparation of eight Union Budgets during his time in the Ministry of Finance.
Das’s appointment follows PK Mishra’s current tenure as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. The appointment signifies the government’s recognition of Das’s extensive expertise in finance and economic policy.
