**NEW DELHI** – Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government announced today. The appointment, confirmed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, will last until the end of the Prime Minister’s term or until further notice.
Das, who served as RBI Governor for six years beginning in December 2018, brings extensive experience in governance spanning four decades. His career includes significant roles in central and state governments, encompassing finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure. His tenure at the RBI was marked by a strong response to the COVID-19 pandemic, where he implemented a series of policy measures to maintain financial stability and support economic growth.
In a separate announcement, the government extended the term of NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam by one year, effective February 24, 2025. Subrahmanyam, a 1987-batch IAS officer, was initially appointed to the position in February 2023.
