**New Delhi, February 23, 2025** – Atishi, former Delhi Chief Minister and MLA from Kalkaji, has been unanimously elected as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly. The decision was announced following a meeting of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs on Sunday, attended by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

AAP Delhi unit convenor Gopal Rai stated that all 22 AAP MLAs unanimously supported the proposal to appoint Atishi as LoP, with MLA Sanjeev Jha formally nominating her.

In a press conference, Atishi expressed gratitude to Kejriwal and her fellow MLAs. She vowed that AAP would act as a strong opposition, vigorously raising public concerns and holding the ruling BJP government accountable for its promises. Specifically, she highlighted the BJP’s pledge to provide ₹2,500 to women in Delhi by March 8th, promising to ensure the government fulfills this commitment.

The first session of the Delhi Assembly begins on February 24th, where the BJP government plans to table pending CAG reports on the previous AAP administration. Atishi stated that this is standard procedure, noting she herself had previously submitted these reports to the Assembly during her tenure as Chief Minister.

Kejriwal, in a post on X, congratulated Atishi and affirmed AAP’s commitment to playing a constructive opposition role in the interests of Delhi’s citizens. The BJP won a significant victory in the February 5th Assembly elections, securing 48 of 70 seats and ousting AAP from power.
