Sun Feb 23 15:48:41 UTC 2025: **North Andhra Advocates Intensify Demand for Visakhapatnam High Court Bench**

VISAKHAPATNAM, February 24, 2025 – Advocates from six North Andhra districts launched a renewed campaign on Sunday, February 23, demanding the establishment of a High Court bench in Visakhapatnam. The unanimous resolution, passed at a meeting of the Visakhapatnam Bar Association, pledges phased agitations to pressure authorities into fulfilling this long-standing demand.

The advocates highlighted the significant hardship faced by residents of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitarama Raju, and Kakinada districts, who must travel hundreds of kilometers to Vijayawada for High Court proceedings. The demand, they emphasized, dates back to 1989-90, with previous agitations dating to 1993.

The meeting resolved to form a steering committee to lobby the Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice and the Chief Minister. Participants also called for public support and announced that advocates would wear black badges starting Monday, February 24th, to demonstrate their commitment. Further demands included the establishment of a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) in Visakhapatnam and the withdrawal of the proposed Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Several speakers expressed confidence that the judiciary supports their cause, and suggested direct engagement with the judges as a potential solution.
