Imphal, Manipur – February 22, 2025 – Manipur police announced a significant crackdown on militant and extortionist groups, arresting eight individuals in separate operations across the state. Six members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Ibungo Ngangom) were apprehended in Imphal West district, while two members of the G5 Organisation were arrested in Imphal East for alleged extortion. The G5 Organisation members are accused of targeting sand-laden trucks and stealing keys from drivers. Authorities also recovered at least two firearms and ammunition, following a governor’s appeal for the surrender of illegal weapons. Separate operations yielded the recovery and subsequent destruction of several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Tengnoupal district, highlighting the ongoing security concerns in the state. These arrests and seizures come amidst continued search operations by Manipur Police and Central forces following the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023, which has claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands.
