Sat Feb 22 08:34:17 UTC 2025: ## Six Feared Trapped After Tunnel Collapse in Telangana

**Nagar Kurnool, Telangana –** At least six workers are feared trapped following a tunnel collapse at the under-construction Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) in Nagarkurnool district, Telangana. The incident occurred Saturday at the 14th kilometer point of the tunnel behind the Srisailam dam near Domalapenta, when a three-meter section of the tunnel roof caved in while workers were repairing a leak. While three workers escaped, rescue efforts are underway to reach the six others believed to be trapped inside.

The tunnel, which had only reopened four days prior, is part of the ongoing SLBC construction project in Amrabad. A construction firm assessment team has been dispatched to the site.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock at the incident, ordering immediate deployment of district officials, including the Collector, SP, Fire Department, and Irrigation Department personnel, to the scene to assist in rescue and relief efforts. Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar and other department officials have travelled to the site by helicopter. Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy has also contacted officials, demanding a full investigation into the cause of the collapse and ensuring the safe rescue of those trapped, as well as medical treatment for the injured. The exact number of injured remains unconfirmed.
