Fri Feb 21 15:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Mumbai Indians Triumph Over Gujarat Giants in WPL Thriller

**Vadodara, February 18** – Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their first win in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) with a convincing five-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants (GG) in Vadodara today. A stunning bowling performance by MI, spearheaded by Nat Sciver-Brunt’s exceptional PowerPlay spell, decimated GG’s top order, leaving them reeling at 28/4.

Sciver-Brunt, who also starred with the bat, dismissed Beth Mooney and Ash Gardner in quick succession during the PowerPlay. Hayley Matthews claimed three wickets, including a crucial catch by Amelia Kerr, further contributing to GG’s early collapse. Despite a fighting 32 from Harleen Deol, who stabilized the innings after the early wickets, poor shot selection plagued GG throughout their innings, resulting in a paltry total of 120 all out.

MI’s chase wasn’t without its challenges. While Matthews fell early, Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings with a second consecutive half-century, scoring 57 runs. Kerr also contributed significantly, smashing a six and four in a single over before falling LBW. Despite some late wickets, MI comfortably reached the target in 16.1 overs.

Priya Mishra took two wickets for GG, but her expensive bowling in the final stages couldn’t prevent MI’s victory. Kashvee Gautam also picked up two wickets for GG.

The match highlighted the contrasting fortunes of the two teams. While MI showcased a strong all-round performance, GG’s struggles with shot selection and inability to build partnerships proved costly. The win propels Mumbai Indians to their first victory in the tournament.
