Fri Feb 21 16:40:00 UTC 2025: ## 16-Year-Old Makes History in Women’s Premier League Debut

**Vadodara, India** – G. Kamalini, a member of India’s victorious U19 Women’s World Cup team, etched her name in history on Thursday, becoming the youngest player ever to compete in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The 16-year-old southpaw debuted for the Mumbai Indians against the Gujarat Giants, surpassing Shabnam Shakil’s previous record.

Kamalini, who received her cap from former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More amidst applause from teammates including Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt, made an immediate impact, smashing a boundary off her first ball. While she finished her debut innings with four not out, her performance on the field was also praised.

Kamalini’s impressive U19 World Cup performance, where she scored 143 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 104.37 including a crucial semi-final fifty, set the stage for her WPL entry. Her Mumbai Indians teammate, VJ Joshita, recently achieved a similar feat, becoming the youngest player for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mumbai Indians secured a five-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants, who posted a modest 120 runs despite a 32-run contribution from Harleen Deol. Nat Sciver-Brunt led the Mumbai chase with a 57-run knock, but Hayley Matthews was named Player of the Match for her three wickets and 17 runs. The win maintains Mumbai Indians’ unbeaten record in the tournament.
