Sat Feb 22 08:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Australia Returns to Champions Trophy Action Under Smith’s Captaincy

**Sydney, Australia** – After an eight-year hiatus, the ICC Champions Trophy returns, with Australia set to compete in the prestigious 50-over cricket tournament hosted by Pakistan and the UAE. This marks the first time since 1996 that Pakistan has hosted an ICC tournament. Security concerns had previously limited Pakistan’s ability to host major international events, but this year’s tournament represents a significant step forward.

However, due to political tensions, India will play all its matches in the UAE. Should India reach the semi-finals or final, those matches will also be held in the UAE.

The tournament, featuring eight teams divided into two groups, will see Australia, captained by Steve Smith, compete in Group B alongside England, South Africa, and Afghanistan. Group A consists of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, culminating in the final on March 9th at 8pm AEDT.

Australia’s squad, a blend of experience and youth, will be without several key players. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have withdrawn due to personal reasons, while Mitch Marsh, Josh Hazlewood, and Marcus Stoinis are also absent due to injury and retirement.

Fans in Australia can watch the matches live on Amazon Prime Video, with Hindi language coverage also available. ABC Sport will provide live score updates and radio coverage.
