**New Delhi:** Delhi’s newly appointed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today for the first time since assuming office. The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence, lasted for approximately one hour and forty-five minutes.
Following the meeting, CM Gupta announced her government’s swift action on several key issues. The first cabinet meeting approved the central government’s Ayushman Bharat scheme, previously stalled by the preceding administration. Gupta also highlighted her commitment to a women’s empowerment scheme, reportedly a central topic of discussion with PM Modi. A key meeting regarding this scheme was held later in the day.
Gupta’s proactive approach is evident in various initiatives already undertaken. She has ordered inspections of Mohalla clinics and initiated budget preparation meetings. Minister Parvesh Verma inspected road and flyover construction projects, emphasizing the allocation of sufficient funds for long-lasting infrastructure.
The former CM, Atishi, has written to Gupta, requesting a meeting to discuss a proposed monthly allowance for women. The AAP party alleges that this scheme, despite PM Modi’s alleged support, was not passed in the first cabinet meeting.
CM Gupta’s meeting with PM Modi is seen as a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the Delhi state government and the central government, and setting the stage for collaborative efforts on key policy initiatives.
