**New Delhi, India** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the success of the historical drama “Chhaava,” starring Vicky Kaushal, during his address at the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi on Friday. The film, depicting the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has garnered nationwide acclaim, exceeding expectations at the box office.

PM Modi specifically acknowledged the film’s impact, stating that “Maharashtra and Mumbai have elevated both Marathi and Hindi cinema,” and that “Chhaava is making waves.” He also credited Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel for introducing many to the bravery of Sambhaji Maharaj.

The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, has already crossed the ₹200 crore mark, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Its success was further bolstered by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti holiday on Wednesday, resulting in a massive ₹30 crore collection that day – nearly matching its Valentine’s Day opening. Maharashtra remains the strongest market for the film, with Rajasthan and West Bengal also showing significant viewership.
