**Dubai, UAE** – Indian pacer Mohammed Shami etched his name in cricketing history Thursday, becoming the fastest bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets. He achieved the milestone during India’s match against Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, dismissing Jaker Ali in the 43rd over.

Shami’s remarkable feat surpasses the likes of Mitchell Starc and Saqlain Mushtaq, reaching the landmark in just 5126 balls and 104 matches – equalling Mushtaq’s record for fewest ODIs to reach 200 wickets. He achieved this despite a 14-month injury layoff before his return to international cricket.

In a dominant performance, Shami claimed a five-wicket haul (5/53) in 10 overs, becoming only the second Indian, after Ravindra Jadeja, to achieve this feat in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy. His exceptional bowling also propelled him past Zaheer Khan for most wickets in ICC ODI tournaments, boasting a total of 60 wickets.

Shami’s achievement marks a stunning comeback and cements his place as one of India’s premier ODI bowlers. His performance was instrumental in India’s victory over Bangladesh, showcasing his exceptional skill and determination.
