Fri Feb 21 08:18:33 UTC 2025: ## Supreme Court Modifies Order in MLA Abbas Ansari Case

**New Delhi, February 21, 2025** – The Supreme Court of India today revised its earlier order demanding a 10-day completion of the investigation against Uttar Pradesh MLA Abbas Ansari under the Gangsters Act. The court instead questioned whether any investigation is still pending.

The development followed arguments from senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Mr. Ansari, who stated the investigation was finished and a chargesheet filed. He further claimed the state submitted a false affidavit. The Additional Solicitor General K.M. Nataraj requested further clarification.

The court’s earlier order, issued earlier today, directed Uttar Pradesh Police to complete the probe within 10 days, stating that Mr. Ansari’s bail plea would be considered afterward. The matter has been adjourned to March 6th.

Separately, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate regarding Mr. Ansari’s bail plea in a money laundering case. Mr. Ansari, an MLA from Mau constituency representing the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, was arrested on September 6th, 2024, following an FIR lodged in August 2024 under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. The Allahabad High Court rejected his bail plea in December 2024. The charges include extortion and assault. Mr. Ansari’s request to appear virtually in trial court proceedings, citing safety concerns, was made in January.
