Fri Feb 21 03:13:05 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta Sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister in Landslide Victory

**New Delhi** – In a stunning upset, the BJP swept the Delhi Assembly elections, culminating in the swearing-in of first-time MLA Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister on Thursday. The ceremony, held at the iconic Ramlila Maidan, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several NDA Chief Ministers, showcasing a strong display of party unity. A crowd of approximately 30,000 chanted “Jai Shri Ram” as Gupta, dressed in a red saree and jacket reminiscent of BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj, took the oath of office administered by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

Gupta’s victory marks a significant shift in Delhi’s political landscape, ending a 27-year absence of the BJP from power in the state. Six other MLAs were also sworn in as Cabinet ministers: Parvesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, Pankaj Kumar Singh, and Ravinder Indraj Singh. The BJP’s carefully constructed cabinet demonstrates a conscious effort to balance caste representation, including representation from Sikh, Jat, Brahmin, Punjabi Khatri, and Dalit communities. Veteran BJP MLA Vijender Gupta will serve as Assembly Speaker, with Mohan Bisht as his deputy.

Gupta, 50, becomes Delhi’s fourth female Chief Minister, following in the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi. A lawyer by profession and hailing from the Baniya community, Gupta’s political career began with the ABVP before she served as president of the Delhi University Students’ Union. Despite previous unsuccessful attempts at the Delhi Assembly elections, her political skills led to her appointment as national vice-president of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha. Her win underscores the BJP’s success in mobilizing support among various communities, including the Purvanchali community, which significantly shifted its support from the AAP in this election.
