**Mumbai, India** – The new Bollywood film “Mere Husband Ki Biwi,” starring Arjun Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh, and Bhumi Pednekar, has received a mixed reception, earning a 2.5-star rating. While praised for its strong female performances and comedic premise, the film ultimately falls short due to pacing issues and a problematic narrative.
Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film centers around Ankur (Kapoor), a timid man haunted by his fiery ex-wife Prabhleen (Pednekar). When Prabhleen suffers amnesia and believes Ankur proposed, chaos ensues. The initial premise is promising, and Bhumi Pednekar delivers a standout performance as the independent, strong-willed Prabhleen, effectively carrying the comedic weight of the film. Rakul Preet Singh also provides a solid performance as Antara, Ankur’s new love interest. However, Arjun Kapoor’s portrayal of Ankur fails to reach the necessary comedic pitch, leaving some comedic sequences lacking energy.
The film’s major flaw lies in its misleading narrative. Initially portraying Ankur as a victim of Prabhleen’s alleged aggression, the film later reveals Prabhleen’s actions stemmed from her desire to pursue her career, ultimately portraying her as victimized by societal expectations. This narrative shift leaves a sour taste, undermining the film’s otherwise comedic elements. Furthermore, the film’s runtime suffers from a sluggish second half that could benefit from significant editing.
Despite the strong performances from the female leads and a catchy musical score, “Mere Husband Ki Biwi” ultimately fails to live up to its potential. While the attempt at a comedic narrative is appreciated, the execution is hampered by pacing issues, a poorly handled central conflict and a somewhat problematic portrayal of a working woman.
