Fri Feb 21 15:10:41 UTC 2025: ## Puducherry Lt. Governor Seeks Assistance for Injured Fishermen in Sri Lanka

**Puducherry, February 21, 2025** – Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan has called on the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian High Commission in Colombo to provide legal aid and protection to fishermen from Karaikal and Tamil Nadu who were injured after being reportedly fired upon by the Sri Lankan Navy.

A Raj Nivas press release stated that the Lt. Governor requested monitoring of the fishermen’s health and treatment in Sri Lanka. He also urged for the immediate release of the arrested fishermen and their seized boats, condemning the frequent arrests, imprisonment, boat confiscations, and fines levied against Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.

The Ministry of External Affairs informed the Lt. Governor that the Prime Minister, during Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s recent visit, requested a humanitarian approach to the issue and a meeting between fishermen from both countries. The Ministry and the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka are actively working towards a resolution. The Lt. Governor expressed optimism for a swift and amicable solution.
