Thu Feb 20 12:05:07 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Hopes Dented by Zaman Injury

**Dubai, UAE –** Pakistan’s chances of defending their Champions Trophy title have taken a significant hit following the injury-related withdrawal of key batsman Fakhar Zaman. The 34-year-old opener suffered a chest muscle sprain while fielding during Wednesday’s 60-run loss to New Zealand in Karachi. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed Thursday that Zaman will miss the remainder of the tournament.

Zaman, who averages over 46 in 86 ODIs, was visibly hampered during the match against New Zealand, batting at number four and scoring a slow 24 runs. He has been replaced in the squad by Imam-ul-Haq.

The injury comes as a devastating blow to Pakistan, who must now defeat arch-rivals India on Sunday in Dubai to maintain their hopes of reaching the semi-finals. A loss would severely jeopardize their chances of progressing in Group A, which also includes Bangladesh. The top two teams from each group advance. Zaman expressed his disappointment on social media but vowed a strong return. Pakistan will now look to their remaining players to step up and secure victory against India.
