**New Delhi, Feb 20** – A Delhi court today convicted former Madhya Pradesh MLA Kishore Samrite for threatening to blow up the Parliament building. Samrite, who represented Lanji in Balaghat district, sent a letter to the Rajya Sabha secretary general on September 16, 2022, containing a threat to detonate explosives on September 30th if his demands were not met. The letter also included a suspicious substance, a copy of the Indian Constitution, and the Indian flag.
While the court acquitted Samrite of charges related to possession of explosives and endangering life through their use – as the substance was found to be harmless – he was found guilty under Section 506 Part II of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for issuing criminal threats. This charge carries a maximum sentence of seven years imprisonment.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne noted that although the substance posed no actual explosive threat, the letter explicitly detailed a plan to bomb Parliament using dynamite. The judge will hear arguments on the sentencing on February 27th.
