Fri Feb 21 09:30:41 UTC 2025: ## Expat Couple’s Eco-Friendly Punjab Wedding Promotes Farming

**Ferozepur, Punjab –** A heartwarming twist on the traditional “big fat Indian wedding” has taken place in the village of Kari Kalan, Ferozepur. Expat couple Durlabh Singh, an IT professional in Canada, and Harman Kaur celebrated their nuptials on February 19th with a unique ceremony that celebrated their Punjabi roots and championed local farmers.

Instead of a lavish urban affair, the couple opted for a rustic wedding in the agricultural fields, creating a stunningly green and eco-friendly setting. The wedding procession saw the bride arriving at the groom’s home in a departure from typical wedding customs. The wedding pandal was adorned with colourful plants, which were later gifted to guests as parting gifts. Sweet boxes featured farmers’ slogans, and bottles of honey were distributed alongside, promoting local agricultural products.

“We were inspired by the farmers’ struggle on the Delhi border, which we wholeheartedly support,” explained Durlabh Singh. “We wanted to send a message about reconnecting with the land.” The couple’s unique approach provides a refreshing alternative to extravagant weddings, highlighting the importance of environmental consciousness and supporting local communities.
