Fri Feb 21 01:59:35 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta Sworn in as Delhi’s Fourth Woman Chief Minister

**New Delhi** – In a significant political shift, Rekha Gupta, a first-time BJP MLA, was sworn in as Delhi’s fourth woman chief minister on Thursday at a massive ceremony held at Ramlila Ground. The BJP formed the government in Delhi after a 27-year absence, securing a commanding 48 seats in the 70-member assembly.

Gupta’s swearing-in was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several other prominent BJP leaders and chief ministers from across India. The event marked a historic moment, with many celebrating the rise of a woman leader in Delhi’s political landscape.

Six other BJP MLAs – Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Raviraj Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh – were also sworn in as ministers. Portfolio allocations were announced later, with Gupta retaining key departments including general administration, finance, and women and child development. Verma was given charge of PWD and other significant portfolios.

In her first address, Gupta announced that the promised ₹2,500 monthly income support for women under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana would be credited to bank accounts by March 8th. She also confirmed that her government would prioritize implementing the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme and tabling 14 previously withheld CAG reports. These reports, according to Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, highlight alleged scams under the previous Aam Aadmi Party government.

Gupta’s appointment has been met with mixed reactions. While BJP leaders celebrated the victory and expressed confidence in her leadership, the opposition voiced concerns and criticism. Congress leader Alka Lamba noted the challenges ahead for the new CM, highlighting the short tenures of previous BJP chief ministers in Delhi. Former Delhi CM Atishi demanded immediate implementation of the ₹2500 women’s support scheme.

The new Delhi government’s agenda is set to focus on development, improved governance, and fulfilling election promises. The swearing-in ceremony concluded with a Yamuna aarti attended by Gupta and her cabinet ministers, signaling a commitment to cleaning the polluted river. The new government faces significant challenges, including tackling Delhi’s pollution and implementing its ambitious policy goals.
