Fri Feb 21 12:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Top Chinese Official Investigated for Corruption

**Beijing** – Jiang Chaoliang, a former member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and vice chairman of its Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, is under investigation for serious disciplinary violations and suspected illegal activities, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Supervisory Commission announced today.

Jiang, born in August 1957, held a prominent position in China’s financial sector before entering politics. His career included leadership roles at several major banks, serving as chairman of Bank of Communications, president of the China Development Bank, and chairman of the Agricultural Bank of China. He later served as governor of Jilin province and, from 2016 to 2020, as the party secretary of Hubei province. His tenure in Hubei was marked by criticism over the initial response to the COVID-19 outbreak, ultimately leading to his removal from office in February 2020.

The CCDI and National Supervisory Commission will conduct a thorough investigation into Jiang’s alleged misconduct. The announcement marks yet another high-level official to fall from grace amid the ongoing anti-corruption campaign.
