Fri Feb 21 14:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Gavaskar Honored with Road Naming in Kasaragod, Expresses Gratitude

**KASARGOD, KERALA, February 21, 2025** – Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar was honored on Friday with the naming of a road in Kasaragod, Kerala, after him. The inauguration took place amidst a warm welcome from the local community. Speaking at the event, Gavaskar expressed his surprise and gratitude, noting that he has no roads named after him in his hometown of Mumbai.

Gavaskar, who arrived in Mangaluru early Friday morning, was received by a welcoming committee led by Kasaragod Municipality Chairman Abbas Beegath. He unveiled a plaque bearing his name and participated in a roadshow leading to the Royal Convention Centre. This marks the second road in Kasaragod named after a cricketer; a road is already named after Anil Kumble.

While expressing his deep appreciation for the honor, Gavaskar also voiced his hope that Kerala’s Ranji Trophy team would win, believing such a victory would boost the careers of Kerala’s players and propel them to national recognition. He stated, “Mumbai is my home; my connections are there. Yet, there’s no road or institution named after me there. The love I receive here in Kasaragod is overwhelming; I don’t know how to express my thanks.”

The event concluded with Gavaskar’s participation in a roadshow, leaving a lasting impression on the Kasaragod community.
