**NEW DELHI:** Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was discharged from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Friday morning. The 78-year-old leader had been admitted on Thursday for routine check-ups and was under the observation of a team of doctors. Her last public appearance was on February 13th during the Parliament’s budget session.
Prior to her hospitalization, Ms. Gandhi had urged the government to expedite the census, citing concerns that approximately 140 million people are missing out on benefits under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) due to outdated population data. During her recent address in the Rajya Sabha, she highlighted that the NFSA beneficiaries are still being identified based on the 2011 census, rather than the current population figures. She had previously lauded the NFSA as a landmark initiative aimed at ensuring food and nutritional security for India’s population.
