**New Delhi** – Parvesh Verma, a veteran BJP leader, has been appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi following a stunning victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections. Verma defeated incumbent Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency.
Verma, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, boasts a long and prominent political career spanning nearly three decades. He’s served as a two-time Member of Parliament and MLA, representing West Delhi and Mehrauli respectively. His campaign focused on addressing key issues such as access to essential services like clean water and electricity, promising to revamp the Yamuna riverfront, create 50,000 government jobs, and tackle Delhi’s pollution problem. His supporters rallied behind the slogan, “Delhi ka CM kaisa ho, Parvesh Verma jaisa ho” (“Our CM should be like Parvesh Verma”).
The election win was not without controversy. The AAP accused Verma of vote-buying, allegations he refuted, attributing his assistance to women to his father’s NGO.
Verma’s appointment comes amidst predictions of a 6.3% GDP growth for India in FY25, according to SBI Research, slightly lower than the National Statistical Office’s forecast. While this economic outlook offers a backdrop to the political changes in Delhi, Verma’s decisive victory positions him as a strong contender for the Chief Minister’s position in the future.
