Wed Feb 19 18:12:10 UTC 2025: ## BJP’s Rekha Gupta Sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister, Receives Cross-Party Support
**New Delhi, February 19, 2025** – Rekha Gupta has been sworn in as Delhi’s new Chief Minister, marking a significant victory for the BJP after a decade-long rule by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The 50-year-old former Delhi University Students’ Union president and civic body councillor will also be the only woman chief minister in a BJP-ruled state. Her swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan tomorrow will be attended by prominent BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Gupta’s appointment followed the BJP’s landslide victory in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats. The win ended AAP’s 10-year reign, with prominent AAP leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia losing their seats.
In a surprising show of unity, outgoing Chief Minister Atishi and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal extended their support to Gupta, pledging cooperation for the development of Delhi. Kejriwal, in a tweet, expressed hope that Gupta would fulfill the BJP’s election promises. Atishi specifically urged the BJP to deliver on its key promise of a Rs 2,500 monthly allowance for women, hoping the funds will be transferred by March 8th, International Women’s Day.
The BJP’s election campaign centered heavily on promises benefiting women, including the monthly allowance, financial aid for pregnant women, subsidized LPG cylinders, and increased pensions for senior citizens. The Delhi Women and Child Development Department is already drafting schemes related to these promises, with a press briefing scheduled for March 8th.
Gupta, who met with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena earlier today, thanked the BJP leadership and pledged to take Delhi to new heights. Her ascension makes her Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister, following Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi.
