Wed Feb 19 18:32:23 UTC 2025: ## Samsung Workers’ Strike in Sriperumbudur Continues After Failed Negotiations
**CHENNAI, February 20, 2025** – Negotiations between Samsung India and its workers’ union, the Samsung India Workers Union (SIWU), failed to resolve the ongoing strike at the company’s Sriperumbudur factory. The strike, now in its 15th day, involves demands for the reinstatement of three suspended union members and other issues.
The Additional Labour Commissioner mediated another round of talks on Wednesday, but no agreement was reached. The SIWU, backed by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), has announced plans for a significant escalation of the protest, including a large-scale strike on March 7th.
E. Muthukumar, District Secretary of CITU Kancheepuram, alleges that Samsung is planning to suspend another 18 employees. He further stated that a protest is planned in Sipcot parks in Kancheepuram on February 21st. A further round of talks is scheduled for February 24th.
A Samsung India spokesperson responded with a statement emphasizing the company’s commitment to resolving issues through direct engagement with workers. However, the spokesperson also stated that the company does not tolerate illegal activities that compromise workplace safety and that disciplinary action will be taken against employees violating company policies. The company reiterated its priority of maintaining a safe and stable work environment.
