**New Delhi, February 20, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta as its candidate for the post of Delhi Assembly speaker. The announcement was made Thursday, following the BJP’s victory in the recent Delhi Assembly elections.
Mr. Gupta, a three-term MLA, confirmed his nomination and stated his intention to prioritize tabling 14 pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports from the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. He had previously approached the courts with other BJP MLAs, alleging that the AAP government had prevented the tabling of these reports.
The BJP currently holds 48 seats in the 8th Delhi Assembly, while the AAP holds 22. The Assembly speaker is elected by the House members.
