**NEW DELHI, February 20, 2025** – In a surprise move, Rekha Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister today at a ceremony held at Ramlila Maidan. The 50-year-old, a grassroots leader with an RSS-ABVP background, becomes the fourth woman to hold the post in the Union Territory.
Gupta’s appointment follows a BJP legislature party meeting Wednesday evening. She defeated several other contenders, including prominent figures like Parvesh Verma, Vijender Gupta, and Satish Upadhyay. “It is a huge responsibility,” Gupta stated, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the BJP high command.
